'Promising practices in out-of-home care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers, children and young people: profiling promising programs' (2007) written by Jenny Higgins and Nikki Butler and published by the Australian Institute of Family Studies in a series of 4 booklets. Profiles of what works well for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care, and promotes strategies to help organisations overcome barriers to effective practice. From a project conducted as a collaboration between the National Child Protection Clearinghouse and the SNAICC Resource Service, commissioned by the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs on behalf of the Australian Council of Children and Parenting.

The Mirabel Foundation was funded by the former Department of Family and Community Services to produce and distribute the national version of this book .The book provides practical advice and information to grandparents and kinship carers who take on the raising of children, particularly as a result of the parent's substance abuse.
